Board the World: Jeep Terrain Park Challenge Launches New Season

January 4, 2008
Jeep Terrain Park Challenge Launches New Season with 60 Safety Education & Competition Clinics Across the U.S.

The Jeep® Terrain Park Challenge, a progressive grassroots program now in its third year of promoting safety and responsibility at terrain parks, today announced an enhanced format and expanded line-up of safety education and competition clinics at some of the top winter sport resorts across the U.S.

The expansion of the Terrain Park Challenge reflects industry wide recognition of freestyle riding as one of the fastest new areas of growth. With this ever-increasing number of participants comes a rising risk of injury to beginner and expert riders alike seeking big air and attempting extreme stunts.

The new season, set to kick off in spring 2008, will feature 60 clinics at resorts spread among six key regions of the country, including the East (New Hampshire, New York and Vermont), West (California and Nevada), Midwest (Michigan and Minnesota), Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington) and two in the Rockies (Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming).

During the sessions, a Terrain Park Challenge team consisting of ski and snowboard safety specialists, instructors and Ski Patrol members will encourage safety and personal responsibility through a program that reinforces the National Ski Area Association’s highly regarded Smart Style campaign. An emphasis will be placed on common sense, etiquette, handling variable conditions and general awareness. Key safety issues will include respect, looking before leaping, approaching park elements, executing take-offs and landings and the importance of calling “Droppin’ next” before approaching an element.

After watching the Rossignol Demo Team safely execute tricks and show how to use various terrain park features, the ski and snowboard riders in attendance will have the opportunity to take center stage in a competition for prizes. Participants will receive Trick Tip DVD’s and magazines, T-shirts and hats, as well as giveaways from Terrain Park Challenge sponsors.

“Each season we have made a goal to expand the format of the Terrain Park Challenge so that we can continue reach new skiers and snowboarders getting involved in the sport,” said Kate Danaher, Director of the Terrain Park Challenge. “This year, we’re growing the program to include demonstrations of the newest tricks along with valuable safety tips, after which the riders have a chance to show their own moves while competing for great prizes.”

The announcement of the new Terrain Park Challenge season coincides with the re-launch of the program’s website, www.JeepTPC.com, which includes a link to receive free swag and the latest event updates, a hub to submit photos and videos of terrain park highlights, a comprehensive schedule of clinics and a refresher of safety tips for all ages and skill levels.

Resorts interested in learning more about the Terrain Park Challenge or registering to host a future clinic and competition may contact Kate Danaher at 415-289-1353 or kate@eclipsetv.net.
